Mothers visit to Coolmine

Category: Event

By: Coolmine RFC

Coolmine played host to touring USA side ‘Mothers Rugby Club’ on Sunday afternoon in Ashbrook. The North American team hail from Washington and are linked with the University of Mary Washington. Their players are a mix of experienced veterans, great athletes in their first few years of rugby and new ruggers to the university that played in high school. They pride ourselves on inclusion and taking care of our own – they have unequalled teamwork on and off the field and an excellent job placement program after graduation through their 30 years of alumni. The club tours every two years and this time Ireland was their destination of choice. A snowbound east coast hampered their departure but they eventually landed in Dublin on Saturday for their 8 day stay. Three matches took place in total, a combined Coolmine Tag and veteran’s selection took on Mothers in a ten a side challenge tag contest. An under 21’s selection then took on Mothers 2nd XV. The main event of the day saw Coolmine’s seconds take on Mother’s first selection. All three contests were hard fought battles with the home sides experience winning out in the end. However the visitors were not overly disappointed and were delighted with the chance to take on ‘testing’ opposition. Next stop for Mothers is Galway. Best of luck to them on the rest of their tour!
